Motor vehicle accidents occur more often than people realize and can result in life-altering injuries and death. Car accidents happen for numerous reasons. Within the month of December 2018 alone, South Carolina drivers suffered multiple devastating collisions. It’s imperative that residents are aware of the crashes occurring in their local towns, suburbs, and intersections, so they can be more cautious when behind the wheel.
Listed below are some of the automobile accidents that occurred in December 2018.
Man Charged with Multiple Felony Counts in DUI Crash Involving the Death of Four Children
A 27-year-old man, Arnez Yaron Jamison, “is charged with four counts of felony DUI resulting in death, driving under suspension, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and child endangerment,” according to WLTX 19 News.
The accident occurred early on a Friday morning. Jamison was driving while intoxicated when the vehicle crashed, killing three of the four children at the scene. The fourth child later died at the hospital. Two of the children that passed away were his biological kids, although he was also raising the other two as his own.
This was not Jamison’s first encounter with law enforcement. He’s had previous problems including a domestic disturbance, hit-and-run, trespassing, public disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest. His criminal record also depicts previous issues with alcohol consumption. In this particular case, his troubles with the law and alcohol resulted in the death of four children.
The community has rallied together to show their support during this sensitive and difficult time by raising funds for the children’s funerals through an online fundraiser, Go Fund Me.
17-Year Old Killed in an Automobile Collision
The residents of Greenville, South Carolina, are mourning the loss of a high-school football player, Joshua Daniel Burgess, who was found dead at the scene of an automobile accident.
Joshua was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla with two passengers. The vehicle was stopped at a red light when he was hit from behind by a 2016 Honda Accord. The police reported that the Honda Accord had been stolen at some point during the day.
“The impact caused Burgress’ car to roll on its side after being hit from behind, and the Accord went into the median,” stated USA Today High School Sports. According to the police, the Accord was speeding.
The community held a candlelight ceremony in honor of his death. Currently, no charges have been made, however, the accident is still under investigation.
Head-on-Crash Results in the Death of Driver
A motorist driving a 2009 Toyota on SC 253 died in a head-on collision. According to Fox Carolina, “When he crossed the center lane striking a 2013 Ford, he went off the left side of the road striking a tree and going down an embankment.” The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and “had to be extracted from the vehicle mechanically.”
The driver and passenger of the Ford both wore restraining devices and were not transported to the hospital.
Trucking Malfunction Lead to the Death of a Driver
A 1990 GMC pick-up truck malfunction led to the devastating death of a driver. The driver was on I-26 when his truck began to have a mechanical issue, which caused the motorist to stop in the middle lane. However, another driver heading in a similar direction hit the halted truck from behind. The truck driver was transported to the hospital where he later died.
Three Children Killed in Van Collision
A 27-year-old man drove his van off the road and collided into multiple trees. There were five people in the van, including the driver and four minors. The driver and one of the children survived and were transported to the hospital.
