South Carolina Family Seeks Legal Help After Shooting Death Of Loved One

“The… family has endured a profound and painful tragedy in the loss of their beloved son, husband, and father.” Those words came from a release last week that announced a Spartanburg County family had sought legal representation after their loved one was killed by police deputies. The story is one that stunned a community and raised a lot of questions for wrongful death lawyers in Greenville.

According to reports, narcotics officers arrived at the man’s home to serve a search warrant. They were there to search for anabolic steroids, but they claim to have instead found a belligerent home owner. He was loud, violent, and according to police, ultimately grabbed a gun. So in return, they opened fire.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office has claimed that the deputies were justified in the shooting that took the man’s life. His surviving family doesn’t agree. All they can hope for is that the investigation by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) will find the truth.

From their attorney’s release, “The family is hopeful that the results of the SLED investigation will shed light on the numerous questions they have including, but not limited to, what led to seventeen shots being fired inside the home by law enforcement, with two of those shots entering [the victim’s] back.”

This is where the questions are raised. Was this a justified shooting or a wrongful death? The investigation will likely be a lengthy process, and it will need to conclude before the surviving family seeks legal action. We can only hope that the investigation finds the truth, and the heartbroken family gets the answers they rightfully deserve.
